Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in Islamabad hosted a certificate award ceremony for 38 graduates of its 11th Russian language course. Organized in collaboration with Russian academic and diplomatic partners, the program aims to strengthen bilateral educational cooperation and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Russia.

ISLAMABAD, October 19: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in Islamabad hosted a formal certificate award ceremony on October 16 to celebrate the successful completion of its 11th Russian language course, according to official diplomatic and university announcements.

The specialized language program was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU), operating with the active support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Pakistan. According to university records, a total of 38 students successfully completed the rigorous curriculum, receiving certificates confirming their proficiency in the Russian language.
The graduation ceremony was attended by senior academic figures and diplomatic representatives, including Dr. Zahid Majeed, Head of AIOU’s Directorate of International Collaboration and Exchange; Gleb Shubin, Cultural Attaché of the Russian Embassy; and Dr. Roman Porozov and Dr. Anton Dolgov, Associate Professors representing USPU. The presence of both university leadership and diplomatic staff underscored the growing institutional cooperation between academic institutions in Pakistan and the Russian Federation.
Addressing the graduating cohort, Dr. Zahid Majeed commended the collaborative efforts of Russian academic partners in expanding bilateral humanitarian and educational ties. He highlighted the proven effectiveness and ongoing success of the Russian Language Center operating within AIOU. Furthermore, the AIOU official reaffirmed the university administration’s institutional readiness to further broaden educational exchanges, joint research initiatives, and collaborative programs with USPU alongside other prominent Russian universities.
Educational Exchanges and Bilateral Cooperation
Speaking at the concluding event, Cultural Attaché Gleb Shubin expressed appreciation for AIOU leadership, acknowledging their longstanding and constructive partnership. He emphasized that academic and language programs play a pivotal role in strengthening sustainable people-to-people contacts, cultural understanding, and mutual goodwill between Russia and Pakistan.
Mr. Shubin also announced that, following a formal decision by Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, the Russian Embassy has provided the AIOU Russian Language Center with updated equipment, modern furnishings, advanced teaching resources, and comprehensive printed materials. These logistical upgrades are designed to enhance the daily operational capabilities of the center and provide an improved learning environment for future students enrolled in language courses.
The expansion of Russian language instruction in Islamabad forms part of a broader framework of diplomatic, cultural, and educational engagement between Islamabad and Moscow. In recent years, both nations have sought to deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, ranging from economic trade and energy supplies to academic partnerships and cultural diplomacy. University officials noted that interest in learning foreign languages, particularly Russian, has grown steadily among Pakistani students and professionals seeking to engage with Eurasian academic and economic markets.
As the ceremony concluded, organizers encouraged graduates to utilize their newly acquired linguistic skills to foster deeper cross-cultural dialogue and explore professional opportunities in international relations, translation, regional studies, and bilateral trade. AIOU confirmed that enrollment for subsequent sessions of the Russian language program will be announced through official university communication channels in the coming months, reflecting sustained student demand and continued institutional backing from the Russian diplomatic mission in Islamabad.
