KARACHI, October 13, 2026: Renowned television anchorperson and Awam Raj Tehreek head Iqrar-ul-Hassan was produced before a local judicial magistrate in Karachi on Tuesday and handed over to the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on a four-day physical remand.

The legal proceedings took place before the Judicial Magistrate 1 East Court in Karachi following Hassan’s apprehension during a late-night operation from his residence in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. Following his detention in Lahore, officials transferred him to Karachi under tight security. According to official reports, a case numbered 101/2026 has been registered against the political leader and media personality with the cyber crime agency under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

During the hearing at the Karachi court, investigators requested custody of the accused to proceed with inquiries related to alleged offenses involving digital media and online communication. After reviewing the submissions, the judicial magistrate approved a four-day physical remand, directing the investigating team to produce him before the court upon the completion of the interrogation period. Following the conclusion of the court proceedings, an NCCIA detail transferred Hassan back to a designated agency detention cell.

Legal Proceedings and NCCIA Investigation

The arrest and subsequent legal transit from Punjab to Sindh have drawn significant attention from media circles and political observers. Family accounts and associates previously highlighted that the early-morning raid involved the seizure of personal electronic devices, including mobile communication hardware, laptops, and local recording equipment from the premises in Lahore. Legal representatives for the Awam Raj Tehreek chief are closely monitoring the procedural aspects of the case to ensure adherence to statutory protections governing digital forensic investigations and defendant rights under Pakistani jurisprudence.

The NCCIA, tasked with probing cyber offenses and electronic regulatory violations, has maintained that the inquiry is proceeding in accordance with statutory guidelines. Investigators are expected to analyze the seized digital evidence during the four-day remand window to determine the extent of involvement in the specific violations cited in the registered First Information Report (FIR). Further legal responses from the defense counsel are anticipated as the remand period progresses toward its scheduled conclusion.
