Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani highlights trade, investment, and seventy-five years of diplomatic relations at Germany national day event in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD, October 16, 2026: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani has called for the further expansion of economic cooperation, foreign investment, educational exchanges, and parliamentary links between Pakistan and Germany, highlighting that seventy-five years of diplomatic relations provide a robust foundation for future-oriented partnership.
Chairman Gillani made these remarks while addressing a diplomatic reception held in Islamabad to commemorate the national day of Germany. The commemorative gathering brought together German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel, foreign diplomats, government officials, and distinguished guests from various sectors. The Senate Chairman formally conveyed warm felicitations on behalf of the parliament, government, and people of Pakistan to the leadership and citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Describing the German national unification day as a symbol of national solidarity, resilience, and shared prosperity, Chairman Gillani noted that longstanding friendly relations between Islamabad and Berlin are firmly rooted in mutual respect, trust, and constructive collaboration. He specifically acknowledged the historic contributions of figures such as the national poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal and humanitarian Dr. Ruth Pfau in bridging cultural and human bonds between the two nations.

Reviewing bilateral economic dimensions, the Senate Chairman expressed appreciation for Germany’s continuous development cooperation, environmental sustainability initiatives, women empowerment projects, and human development programs across Pakistan. He underscored the vital importance of Germany’s support for Pakistan’s continued inclusion in the European Union Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) trading framework. Furthermore, he identified special economic zones, renewable energy, information technology, industrial development, and value-added manufacturing as prime sectors for prospective German investment and joint business ventures.
Strengthening Parliamentary Diplomacy and People-to-People Ties
Addressing broader bilateral dynamics, Chairman Gillani welcomed the growing presence of Pakistani students in German universities and academic institutions. He expressed optimism that administrative challenges regarding visa processing delays for student exchanges and family reunions would receive appropriate facilitation from German consular authorities. He also acknowledged ongoing cooperation concerning the mobility of skilled workforce and highlighted emerging opportunities for collaboration in technology, research, and industrial development, noting potential scope within the defense sector subject to applicable legal frameworks and mutual regulations.

Emphasizing the significance of parliamentary diplomacy, the Senate Chairman stated that regular interactions between the legislative bodies of Pakistan and Germany, alongside close consultations on regional and global affairs, can significantly contribute toward the promotion of international peace, stability, and sustainable progress. He extended an official invitation to German parliamentary leadership to undertake a formal visit to Pakistan, expressing strong confidence that sustained high-level engagement will elevate bilateral relations into an increasingly effective partnership.
