SHEIKHUPURA – An Indian Sikh woman, who traveled to Pakistan for a religious festival, has converted to Islam and married a Pakistani citizen, according to local officials.

The woman, identified as Sarbjit Kaur from Jalandhar, India, arrived in Pakistan on November 4 as part of the annual pilgrimage to mark the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.
Official sources indicate that Kaur had previously developed a friendship with a man named Naseer Hussain from Farooqabad via social media, which led to her decisions to convert and marry.
To formalize her actions, the woman appeared before a judicial magistrate in Sheikhupura. In her court statement, she testified that she had willingly embraced Islam and married Hussain without any external pressure. She affirmed her desire to remain in Pakistan with her new husband.
Following her conversion, Kaur has adopted the Islamic name Noor. The marriage certificate confirms that the 48-year-old married Hussain on November 5. The dower amount, set at Rs10,000, has been paid in full.
